What Will A Business owner Get From Working With Me?

Storytelling is about telling your story before somebody else tells it for you! A stage for coaches, consultants, business owners and performers to use storytelling so that they can educate and entertain a live audience on stage or by the camera, in a unique environment for the spoken word. Storytelling is about: ‘ Turn Up - Stand Up - Speak Up’ . But, what does that mean for a business owner looking to get back into networking, or growing your business after the lockdown? If you are like me then Zoom meetings have been a 'Boom!' Networking in America, Germany, Asia and Australia while sitt9ing in my office here in the UK has been a real benefit in terms of reach and cost-effectiveness. Now what? That's the next question and the key to this article. What do we do now we are going back to face a live audience? Once again other factors come into play, factors that may, or may not have been addressed during the lockdown. So, what are these factors? Facing a live audien...

My Thoughts On The Tao Of My Thoughts #3

Never Tell a Lie Because the Truth is the Tao Does this make the Tao an unreachable goal? This one is more difficult. You see, I've lied. In fact, I probably tell a lie a day in one form or another. Hands up who has gone against the Tao already today! What is a lie? That's a question we should be asking ourselves more and more often because of the propaganda which has been dividing us for the years since when? Trump, Boris, Brexit, Blair, Baroness Thatcher or back into history. We are being lied to all the time and, depending on our particular political bias. Is the Bible a lie? Adam and Eve (where did the name Adam come from?) The Quran? The Torah? I don't know. I know what I choose to believe, and that will also take me into the realms of lying for many people. The truth dying! When do we die? The last breath? A few minutes later when the brain stops? When our soul/spirit leaves for the next journey? I could go on. I believe that like the Tao, the Truth is the Truth. The...

My Thoughts on The Tao Of My Thoughts #2

If there is peace amidst the tumult,  then the Tao has found its rightful place. If there was ever a time to test our connection to the TAO, this last year was surely it!  Or, was it? (And these are my thoughts) Yes, it has been 15/16 months of tragedy, fear, despair and death. I have seen that scenario in many ways over the months when I walked along a *busy main street shopping area, with no one there but myself and a few people window shopping into empty locations or ones with the shutters down.  I have encountered adults dragging children into the road to put more distance between us on the pavement or holding them tight as I approached...and I promise I wore no makeup. I also wore no mask. I walk in peace because I trust my immune system. I trust that my fitness and lifestyle are strong enough to withstand the worst symptoms of the virus and I have experienced fatal cases in the elderly who live around me who went into hospital virus-free and died in hospital ...

My Thoughts on The Tao Of My Thoughts...(Chee Soo)

I walked into a second-hand bookshop and browsed through the shelves. I love these shops because they are an Aladdin's Cave...there's no Magic Lamp to rub but there is the possibility of striking gold. And I did. Just some background. I was in a second-hand bookshop and just looking through the thousands of books just stacked up to the ceiling-a pot luck opportunity. I often walk into these shops with no intention to buy but, knowing that I probably would. I had been practicing Tai Chi for some eight years with teachers schooled into the Lee Family Style which was prevalent around my location at the time, Coventry, in England. The man they named their Sensai was Chee Soo. My eyes stopped at the purple spine of a book with gold letters: 'The Tao of My Thoughts' by Chee Soo.   The #1 Gold I snatched the book from the shelf and felt the texture of a hardback book by Chee Soo in my hands. I opened it not knowing what would be inside. That's when I struck the first nug...

What's Your Name? How did you get it and what does it mean?

Hi, and welcome to the meeting just give us your name, where you live and what you do! How many times have you heard that when it's your turn to speak. "Hi, I am Ernie Boxall and I am a....We say our name so many times that it passes into the ether without a thought. So, I want to look a little more deeply at the following: Where the name originated What it means How it came to be my name The Origin Ernest Name Meaning English and Dutch : from the Germanic byname mentioned at Ernst. However, Reaney cites medieval evidence for Norman spellings such as Ernais, and derives it from a Germanic personal name Arn (e)gis, possibly composed of the elements arn 'eagle' + gisil 'pledge', 'hostage', 'noble youth' So, a name with it's origins on the European mainland (that will give some people who know me a giggle since I am patiently pro-Brexit). I am pleased by the connection to Eagles since they are the birds that made the most impression on me in ...

Would You Talk To A Complete Stranger? The 6 Magic Words To Start A Conversation!

I sat in Temperance Cafe, Leamington, today, working on StoryTelling Corner when a couple came in and sat down close by. I heard the man talking about the cafe and guessed that he's been before but his girlfriend had not. "Have you seen downstairs?" The man nodded but the girl replied "No". I love the cafe and described the history of the building and the special place the basement plays in the entertainment quality of Temperance. "Do you like stories?" I asked. Her face lit up. Pure energy and joy transformed what was an already attractive woman into a picture of real beauty. Her eyes lit up. Her mouth opened wide in a smile even as she began to gush about her love of Victorian tales and myths. Her Liverpool accent became stronger as excitement streamed from every pore (I hold my hand up as a male old enough to be her grandfather) the rest of the room disappeared into a haze as we spent, what, a few seconds, a few minutes talking about telling stor...
We all have a story. That is the truth of my twenty years in therapy, two years as the founder of the now-closed StoryTelling Corner and ten years of networking. It has become clear that what’s important is telling the story well. There are 5 Top benefits for gaining and maintaining impact with your story. 1. Storytelling is good for you. Stories have consequences, especially negative stories. Get them out of your system. 2. “Would it be OK to hear your story about how you got to be where you are?” Storytelling leads to discussions and opens up new friendships. 3. “No one knows your story better than you do.” You will increase your self-esteem by telling your story often, telling it well and telling it to the right people.    4. "People won't remember what you say as much as what they see when you say it" (Patricia Fripp) And, with storytelling you have many more tools to work on within the presentation.  5. "If you can speak you can motivate yoursel...
